How to audit AI-generated content before publishing

Audit AI content by checking whether it answers the brief, verifying each material claim against a real source, inspecting links and examples, and recording unresolved risks. An AI quality score can help prioritize edits, but only evidence and accountable human review can support publication decisions.

Pass one: compare the draft with the brief

Write a one-sentence description of the reader’s goal, then identify where the draft achieves it. Flag missing steps, unexplained terminology, repeated sections, and claims outside the intended scope. A fluent article can still fail the task it was commissioned to solve.

Check that the headline and opening do not promise more than the body delivers. If the brief concerns a specific product, compare every capability statement against current product evidence rather than assuming generic category features apply.

Pass two: create a claim-and-source record

For each consequential claim, record the sentence, its supporting source, what the source actually says, and the reviewer’s decision. Open every citation. A real URL can still be irrelevant, outdated, or inconsistent with the article’s wording.

A statement such as “this workflow cuts editing time in half” requires a documented measurement with context. If no such measurement exists, remove the number or replace the statement with a limited description of the workflow—not another invented estimate.

  • Verify numbers, units, dates, names, and attributed quotations.
  • Distinguish primary evidence from second-hand summaries.
  • Check that an association is not rewritten as proof of causation.
  • Mark unresolved claims for revision or removal.

Pass three: inspect the reader experience

Read headings in sequence to see whether they form a coherent explanation. Test internal and external links and confirm that anchor text describes the destination. Replace filler with useful examples, and check that examples are genuine or clearly labeled as illustrative.

Inspect image permissions and alt text, then preview the exported document and final CMS page. Do not assume that a clean Markdown file proves a page has good metadata, working links, or accessible mobile formatting.

Pass four: decide whether the article can be approved

Assign each issue a severity and an owner. Unsupported medical advice or a false product promise is a publication blocker, not a minor style issue. Route health, financial, legal, and other high-stakes topics to an appropriately qualified reviewer.

In ArticleStudio, use the three audits as checkpoints around critique, rewrite, and polish. Then complete this human gate after the final audit. Keep a record of what was checked, what changed, and who approved the article. A high AI score must not override an unresolved source problem.

Questions and answers

Can AI verify all of its own facts?

No. An AI system can repeat or overlook errors in its output. Material claims need independent source checks and an accountable reviewer.

Should I publish an article with a high audit score but an unsupported medical claim?

No. Resolve or remove the claim and obtain appropriate medical review before publication. An internal score does not establish clinical accuracy or safety.
